Liz Hamilton - Chair of Trustees

Sum up your role in one sentence
My role is to help make sure that SLEAP uses all its resources in ways that are legal, in the best interests of homeless young people and helps them in the most effective ways possible

What do you like about SLEAP?
I like SLEAP because it’s not just about finding someone somewhere to live. It’s also about helping them learn new skills, plan and develop as individual

What was your first job?
My first ever job was a Saturday girl on a sweet stall on the local market. It didn’t pay very well, but I could eat as many sweets as I wanted!

Summer or Winter?
I love very cold winter days when there’s fresh snow and the sun is shining, but I can’t stand it when the snow goes grey and slushy, and it never seems to get light. I also love hot summer days and all the different shades and colours in nature, but I don’t like it too hot!

Can you play any instruments?
Yes, but badly. Very badly. Piano, guitar and bagpipes.

Have you ever had a nickname?
Yes. When I was at university I had a permed, one-length bob, about chin length. My nickname was Dougal from Magic Roundabout.

What is still left on your bucket list?
Hopefully this one will happen this summer. We’re booked to go on holiday to the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides. It has a very small airport and is the only one in the world that handles scheduled flights using the beach as a landing strip, which is washed by the tides twice a day. We’ve got flights booked to land on the island and hopefully we’ll still get to do that this year

We encourage people to fulfil their potential
