THOUGHTS OF A YOUNG PERSON 2: Before I was placed on the S.L.E.A.P. Project I was homeless for 3 years due to violence in the family home. In this time I stayed with various friends and family members. I was worried about going on the project because I didn't know the people I was going to be put with. When I arrived at the house I would be staying at I was greeted with a very warm welcome and was shown my room. I had tea at the table with the family and got to know them a bit and told them a bit about me. After that I felt more at ease. I stayed with the same family for 5 weeks and they were very kind and considerate. They always asked if I needed anything and offered to take me places. I think the S.L.E.A.P. Project is a good way to get people to face up to their responsibilities and become more independent. I was always made to feel welcome and was very grateful for the opportunity to stay with a family on the project. After being on the project for 5 weeks I was then referred to the Bay6 Project where I stayed for 10 weeks and then was given a flat by New Progress. ‘Alison’ |
